Bay City, Tex – Matagorda County Economic Development Corporation gave credit to LyondellBasell’s Matagorda manufacturing plant for playing a great role in helping the global corporation earn a spot on Fortune Magazine’s 2018 list of the “World’s Most Admired Companies.”
“We would like to congratulate LyondellBasell for being named to Fortune Magazine’s 2018 list of the ‘World’s Most Admired Company’s’,” said MCEDC Executive Director Mike Ferdinand.
“It was no surprise to myself, my staff or my board of directors to hear that LyondellBasell had earned this honor from Fortune Magazine. This company has been earning our admiration and gratitude in Matagorda County for many years.”
Since LyondellBasell began operations in Matagorda County they have been a responsible and compassionate corporate citizen, according to MCEDC.
They have been steadily among Matagorda County’s top 10 employers, bringing not only a good many jobs to our county – about 160 — but also a real quality job to our local citizens.
When local community partners decided it was time for Matagorda County to have its own training ground for skilled employees, LyondellBasell was among the contributors to the program that ultimately brought the Center for Energy Development and the Bay City Campus of Wharton County Junior College to town. The company continues to support that program by hiring its process technology graduates on a steady basis.
They also find plenty of ways to support the local community from providing an annual Christmas Party with gifts for each child at Matagorda ISD; being annual donors to the local United Way Campaign; participating in the United Way Day of Caring each year; sponsoring and participating in Beach Cleanup; they sponsor awards as well as bid on 4-H and FFA projects at the Matagorda County Fair; and the list of charitable contributions they make to local organizations would be endless.
While thy demonstrate their commitment to be good corporate citizens, they also continue to make significant investments to the economic vitality of the county. In 2014, they completed a product expansion at their Matagorda plant, adding significant value for local school districts and government services.
